Only these individuals are capable of creating a joined-up vision of how the Supply Chain will transform over time, while creating the Supply Chain function to deliver that change.

The DSSCB is a leadership group, constructed only of the people who have the ultimate responsibility for the end-to-end Supply Chain in some of the biggest and most important companies in the UK/Europe. Only these individuals are capable of creating a joined-up vision of how the Supply Chain will transform over time, while creating the Supply Chain function to deliver that change. 

Why is the DSSCB needed now:

The Supply Chain is being transformed by many things, but principally by “digitisation”. This comes in many form, including: Blockchain (Provenance/Authentication), Internet of Things (Connectivity), Connected Cab/Autonomous Vehicles (Transport), Drones/Robotics (Warehouse), AI and Machine Learning (Planning)…

Putting together this rapidly evolving set of technologies into something which grows the business isn’t easy; it’s pioneering territory. But super-scale companies like Amazon, Alibaba and Tencent are already leveraging it.  

It is well understood that without the right leadership in place to gather the appropriate insights and leverage that knowledge to generate competitive advantage through the supply chain, successful implementation of such a transformation will be muted. It is essential to ensure that supply chain leaders have the skills and experience to take full advantage of these new tools and technologies and to bring a new way of thinking and operating to the organisation.

Therefore, the objectives of the Board are:

1-To put in place a programme of work streams which completely understand the full potential of the digitised Supply Chain. Removing the hype, while demonstrating the reality of what is practical, tangible and beneficial to business. Each work stream will deliver White Papers, insights and media commentary which promotes the DSSCB, its leadership and member companies.

2-To understand how Chief Supply Chain Officer (CSCO), or equivalent roles, can develop their potential to lead and influence in their own business, exploiting the transformation in the Supply Chain to re-position their own role, influence and function internally, and externally. 

The DSSCB will span multiple sectors, because most organizations can no longer afford to operate in isolation. Instead, they function as part of an enormous global interconnected network. Successful CSCOs have therefore shifted to “systems thinking. They know when and how to partner and collaborate with competitors to gain a competitive edge.

The Board will be supported by a group of selected sponsors and enabling influencers, all of which contributes to making this no-cost to the Board Members. Their role is to provide insight, expertise and potential platforms for projects, etc.   There is a jointly held desire to make this transformation a success, in a collaborative way and outside of the normal customer/supplier relationship.
