Let's hear what you have to say...

Rookie move, how to get out of your own way

Competition within sports and business are parallel concepts for self-growth and business growth.  I have a lot friends who are coaches on many different levels of sports competition, from youth basketball to college wrestling coaches, to Olympic wrestlers themselves.  Throughout this series of blogs, I will interview coaches from all areas of competition to find out their strategy in becoming successful in their careers as well as how they became elite in their sport.

As I explore the concepts and techniques, I will correlate the information to business growth to share with the community.  The concept of correlating sport psychology and business came from a class I took to help me improve and grow my own business.  During the first conversation, someone said: “I know what is wrong with your business!”  I was excited to hear the answer because whatever they are about to say may very well be the magic solution to all my problems.  The answer was the following, “The problem in your business is YOU!”  Feeling frustrated and deflated I asked for clarification.  I realized that being the leader in my organization, I need to understand my strengths and weaknesses but more importantly, get out of my own way.  I began to reflect on Sports Psychology and remembering that this phrase was similar to “Getting out of your own head.”  A light bulb came on for me and thus this idea was born.  Journal and think about what is going on in my business and remember the concepts as it relates to Sports.  As I share the ideas with you please feel free to provide feedback because we are all part of a team we call life.
